On July 7th we held at the Pagos del Rey – Ribera Duero winery, the fourth edition of “La Unica”, an exclusive wine that combines the elegance of Rioja wines, the power of Toro and the Ribera del Duero structure.
The design of La Única is a teamwork that gathers several wineries with the purpose of creating an exclusive and different wine. It’s a precious time for the wineries involved to exchange the knowledge to produce high quality wines. With the help of our winemakers, 10 Riojan wines of the tempranillo variety of the 2017 and 2018 harvest were selected and from the three areas of the DOc Rioja Alta, Baja and Alavesa.
Each of the wines selected in Rioja, had an aging period in American or French oak barrels with different toasted notes reaching an average of approximately 400 days. The wines from Rioja always bring to the blend, the elegance and the character. The native tempranillo contributes to the “finesse” and the characteristic integration of wood.
On this occasion, an international tasting panel has been involved, relevant figures from the world of wine in Spain and some of the most important journalists in the sector such as José Peñín, María Isabel Mijares and Juan Fernández Cuesta. The tasting gathered fifteen people and was conducted in parallel with a video conference connection with the most relevant countries in export development such as Germany, England, China, Japan and the United States.
This IV Edition of La Unica will again have the exclusive label designed by the renowned Argentine artist, Mariano Rinaldi Goñi, who has been the designer of the original labels if the last editions. The name, precisely, comes from the very first edition as each wine label is customized one by one with a design draw by hand.
