Rosé wine in Spain gradually acquires the prominence and space it deserves. It is still of course far from the consumption figures of reds and whites, but year after year we see that sales are increasing both in the shopping basket and in bars and restaurants.s
Spain is at the top of worldwide producer of rosé wine, occupying the second position after our neighbors the French, who also lead the consumer ranking next to the United States. Spain elaborates approximately one-fifth of the world’s rosé production and sell it mostly in export markets.
In addition to the prestige of areas such as DOCa Rioja, they stand out for their quality among others the Denominations of Origin Navarra, Cigales, Ribera Sacra or Bierzo. Its elaboration is not simple since you have to find a balance of color, intensity and the grapes must be of first quality. In general, the grapes are red, of varieties of marked fruit character such as Grenache or Tempranillo as is the case with our Castillo de Albai Rosado.
The key process to give personality to these wines lies at the time of harvest and production. The grapes are squeezed and destemmed to go through a cooling process and then introduced into deposits where the “maceration” of the skins with the must occurs. The dyeing matter is extracted and the color and intensity is added to the wort. This operation has a variable duration, only a few hours, to prevent undesirable substances from spreading from the skins along with the color.
The representation that Pagos del Rey- Rioja has in this category is Castillo de Albai Rosado – varietal Tempranillo and Grenache. It is a wine with an attractive pale red colour and bright tones. On the nose the red fruits stand out with special relevance the strawberry to provide in the mouth that excellent fruity and fresh balance. At the beginning of the year the good work of our winemaker was rewarded by a gold medal in the Berliner Wein Trophy contest.
