The summer edition of the World Competition in Bruselas has awarded the Gold Medal to Castillo de Albai Reserva 2015 and with silver medal to Castillo de Albai Crianza 2016, highlighting the excellence of these wines made in the winery winery located in the area of La Rioja Alta de Pagos del Rey.
This competition is one of the most important events in the sector and took place in mid-September in the Czech city of Brno, renowned for its long winemaking tradition dating back more than 2,000 years. A panel of experts and opinion leaders tasted 8,500 wines from 46 producing countries to distinguish wines whose quality is remarkable.
The Castillo de Albai range represents the tradition and wine culture of the DOCa. Rioja. The wines have been made from the best Tempranillo grapes harvested by hand and from old vineyards and using the most modern production techniques. The result is elegant, balanced and complex wines where neither the aromas nor the fruity and spicy flavors are lost.
Castillo de Albai Reserva is a cherry-colored wine with a high robe. On the nose there are fruity aromas , cocoa and subtle notes of wood. On the palate it is tasty, rounded and balanced. The wine is stored during 18 months in new American oak barrels and another 18 months in the bottle. It is perfect to accompany with traditional roasts and stews.
Castillo de Albai Crianza is an intense garnet wine, on the nose stands out the marked spicy character with the presence of ripe fruit and light notes of wood. The wine sleeps for a period of 12 months in new American oak barrels and completes its aging cycle in the bottle. It is the perfect companion for all kinds of meats, cured cheeses or cold cuts.
